J1939 Engine Monitoring via WAGO-I/O-SYSTEMLarge engine efficiency and emissions monitoring are key to moving commerce over the road or across the sea. Monitoring key engine vitals is increasingly important for maximizing profits and reducing a system’s carbon footprint.
WAGO’s J1939 Interface function block is compatible with the SAE J1939 standard used by prominent engine manufacturers to report key engine parameters. Communicating over fieldbus, the J1939 Interface can accommodate multiple engines on one network.
WAGO offers two options for monitoring J1939 protocols:
Option 1: WAGO’s Industrial PC (IPC) with CANopen fieldbus port. WAGO function blocks run in the IPC’s CoDeSys program to monitor J1939 Product Group Numbers (PGNs). The data monitors the engine, and the IPC’s logic can be programmed to react to engine performance by controlling devices through attached I/O modules.
Option 2: A WAGO programmable controller with a serial module wired to a J1939 to serial converter. Streamlining integration are WAGO-developed function blocks designed specifically for the BridgeWay by Pyramid Solutions J1939 to MODBUS converter. The programmable controller monitors engine information and controls devices, e.g., engine start/stop, speed control or alarms.
Data from either option can be made available to a local HMI or SCADA system. For remote applications, the IPC or Controller can connect to a WAGO TO-PASS 761-216, for data transfer via cell technology.
Custom J1939 Enclosures:
A WAGO-developed J1939 Enclosure simplifies engine monitoring integration. The pre-wired NEMA 4X enclosure is equipped with WAGO-I/O.
Each node of the WAGO-I/O-SYSTEM easily adapts to required quantity and signal types. More than 400 modules ensure system flexibility.
The majority of WAGO controllers, couplers and I/O modules have several marine approvals (e.g., ABS, DNV, GL), and carry UL, CE and ATEX certifications.
